Looking at the surface data will only put a bandaid on a situation. Digging deeper and constantly looking for the patterns will help you not only save time & money, but effort & struggle as well.
Understanding The Client
I'm sitting here working on building lists of data to better understand my clients, how I can help them, and how best to communicate with them. All I can think about is finding patterns!
"How do these ideas connect?" "What is the root cause of this group over here?" "Can I dig deeper?" "Is there a foundational idea for all of it?" It's something I come back to on a regular basis so I can serve my clients well. Getting their feedback is very important to this process because it adds more detail & helps in discovering the patterns.
Weird Passion of a 6 Year Old This brings me back to grade 1 when I started learning about patterns. I LOVED making patterns! I'd spend a lot of time setting up intricate lines along the bar that was set up along one wall.
I remember being done of my work early one day and my teacher had no extra worksheets to give me. She asked me to play quietly while the others worked. OF COURSE I went over to the many boxes of tiny toys and the wooden bar to set up my patterns.
By the time I was done, I had a cycle of 26 different toys which I repeated all along the bar and then the window & ledges along the next wall. That's 30'-40' worth of patterns and I only stopped because I ran out of toys!
Childhood Patterns
Why does a story from my childhood matter?
Because we've been creating patterns all our lives! Thought patterns, emotional patterns, behavioural patterns, and belief patterns! Most of these patterns started when we were just children.
Think about your favourite memory as a child.
How has that experience affected your life so far?
Now think of a bad memory from childhood.
How does it affect, or how have you changed your life because of it?
Today's Patterns
The more vivid the memory, the more strongly it tends to have affected you in some way. This is because vivid, individual memories tend to have more of an emotional tie to them.
Emotions are the driving force behind putting in effort, and really applying ourselves. We steer away from uncomfortable feelings and toward the wanted ones. To break free of patterns that don't serve us, we need to break free of the emotions attached to them first.
Conversation Starter: 1. Share your favourite memory as a child! 2. How has it helped you growing up, or even now?
Much love, Laura Lake <3
